For providers

A dietitian on your client's team

If you're a therapist, physician, psychiatrist, or treatment program looking for an outpatient dietitian, I'd love to work with you. I specialize in eating disorders and complex relationships with food, and I've spent nearly a decade collaborating closely with treatment teams.

Virtual across NY and NC In person in Durham

How I work

More than a meal plan

Weight restoration and meal plans matter, but they're rarely the whole story. My work focuses on understanding the patterns that get in the way of someone nourishing themselves, and on building the internal confidence and trust that lasts after treatment ends. I draw on motivational interviewing and IFS-informed parts work, so clients who feel ambivalent about recovery (which is most of them) have room to explore that ambivalence instead of feeling pushed through it.

Who I see

  • Adults 18 and older
  • Anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, OSFED, and disordered eating that doesn't meet diagnostic criteria
  • Clients stepping down from residential, PHP, or IOP
  • PMOS, GLP-1 support, type 2 diabetes, and GI conditions, especially when food is already complicated
  • Virtual across New York and North Carolina, and in person in Durham
  • In network with the Duke Student Health Plan, with superbills for other plans

Collaboration

How we'll work together

With a signed release, I send monthly updates, or more often when things are shifting. I'm always glad to do case consults, and I'll reach out right away if I have concerns about medical stability or level of care.

Referring a client

Let's connect

The easiest way to refer is through my contact form or by emailing me at hello@valerykallen.com. And even if you don't have a referral right now, I'm always up for a virtual coffee to get to know you and your work. (Bring your own coffee. I'll bring mine.) Referral relationships work best when we actually know each other.
